Our Veterinarians

  • Dr. James Brown
    DVM and Hospital Director

    Dr. Brown has been at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital since 1990. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. Dr. Brown, Martha, and Chip grew up in Western New York, but Dooley is from Montana! Dooley and Martha completed a Certified Pet Therapy Dog program through the Delta Society. His special talent is having children learn to read. Both Chip and Dooley are featured in the picture.

  • Dr. Michelle Horton
    DVM and Medical Director

    Dr. Michelle Horton was born and grew up in western New York. She graduated from Cansius College with a degree in Biology in 2009, and obtained her veterinary degree from the University of Guelph (Ontario) in 2013. After graduation, Dr. Horton worked at Blue Cross for two years, then moved to Toronto for one year to practice and experience big city life. She is happy to have returned to Blue Cross and to be living in the Allentown area again! Outside of work, she enjoys traveling the world, trying new restaurants and cuisines, and exploring the great outdoors with her Border Collie mix, Lenny.

  • Dr. Jennifer Hillegas

    Dr. Jennifer Hillegas has been at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital since 2003. She graduated from Union College in 1998 with her undergraduate degree in biology, and Cornell University in 2003 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Her home is full of life, thanks to her husband Charlie, two children, Ottilia and Jonathan, and her dog Cleo (featured in the picture) and cat Tybalt.

  • Dr. Jennifer McCormick

    Dr. McCormick was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. She completed her Bachelor’s in Biology and Master’s in Psychology at Medaille College. She worked as a licensed veterinary technician at the Blue Cross Animal Hospital for 3 years before pursuing her lifetime dream of becoming a veterinarian. She graduated from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. Dr. McCormick is proud to return to the Blue Cross Animal Hospital team where she enjoys the support of her colleagues. When not working she’s subjecting her husband to new recipes off Pinterest, or keeping up with their young children.

  • Dr. Sarah Funk

    Dr. Sarah Funk was born and raised in Upstate New York and joined Blue Cross Animal Hospital in 2016. She graduated from Allegheny College with a degree in biology in 2008, received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in 2014, and completed a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship in Rochester, NY in 2015. Outside of work Dr. Funk enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with family. She and her husband have two dogs (Bo and Millie), a cat (Gracie), and a horse (Bandit).
